The mission of the Vietnam Young Logistics Talents Competition is not only to discover new “seeds” for the next generation of logistics professionals in Vietnam but also to enhance public awareness of the importance and benefits of developing the logistics sector for the country’s economy.
A Platform for Students and Businesses
With the support of the Export-Import Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) and the Vietnam Logistics Training Network—comprising universities, colleges, and specialized logistics training organizations—the Vietnam Young Logistics Talents Competition has been organized to improve the quality of logistics professionals.
The competition has attracted significant attention from students and businesses nationwide
Over the years, the competition has drawn many logistics students or enthusiasts, contributing to greater public awareness of the field. Participation in the competition provides students with valuable opportunities to interact with experienced businesses and gain hands-on skills to understand the operations of logistics firms both domestically and internationally.
At the Vietnam Young Logistics Talents 2020 Information Day held on September 6 in Hanoi, Mrs. Trinh Thi Thu Huong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics and International Business at Foreign Trade University and Deputy Head of the Competition Organizing Committee, emphasized that 2020 marked the third year of the competition. The main goal is to create a practical platform for students passionate about logistics and supply chain management.
The competition has increasingly attracted attention from students and businesses nationwide, as evidenced by the growing number of participating teams and supporting companies. In its first year (2018), the competition had 349 teams. By the second year (2019), the number of teams had risen to 400 from 40 different universities across the country, with over 1,000 students participating.
“The competition offers students practical experiences, bringing them closer to businesses and allowing them to solve real-world problems posed by companies rather than just theoretical issues from their academic studies. For supporting businesses, it serves not only as a social activity but also as an opportunity to find high-quality human resources for their operations,” Mrs. Trinh Thi Thu Huong stated.
Broad Career Opportunities
As one of the supporting companies, Mr. Manuel Theophilus, Overseas Development Director of U&I Logistics Northern Region, noted that the logistics industry in Vietnam is currently receiving significant attention from the government and various ministries, particularly with considerable support from the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Vietnam’s rapid development in international trade and its status as a destination for many large corporations and factories present numerous opportunities for both the logistics sector and students eager to establish themselves in this field.
The competition acts as a steppingstone for students to acquire practical knowledge and get closer to their future work environment.
“At U&I Logistics, we are always ready to share our knowledge, experiences, and real-world environment with students. We welcome students to visit and work at our U&I Logistics offices,” Mr. Manuel Theophilus said.
With over 30 years in logistics across various countries, Mr. Manuel Theophilus chose Vietnam and U&I Logistics not only for the potential and ambition of the U&I team but also for the open working environment that values intelligence and professionalism. “Vietnamese companies are fully capable of providing international services. I firmly believe that Vietnamese businesses can excel domestically and expand further abroad,” Mr. Theophilus concluded.
Mr. Do Anh Quan, captain of the BA-LOGI team from Banking Academy and champion of the 2019 Vietnam Young Logistics Talents Competition, shared that participating in the competition was the most memorable experience of his student life. The competition, held on a national scale, is one of the few in the logistics field. The knowledge and soft skills gained are highly beneficial for students, and businesses are keen to find high-quality talent through this competition.
