Currently, many agricultural products are grown year-round to align with market demand and improve production efficiency. Despite this, the issue of oversupply leading to price drops and “rescue” operations for agricultural products persists. This is primarily due to the seasonal nature of agricultural products, which often leads to harvests exceeding market consumption capacity. While some businesses have invested in technology to process agricultural products, these efforts have mainly helped consume only a portion of the products with less attractive appearance, creating additional value-added products. Most agricultural products still need to be sold fresh, including for export. Therefore, appropriate technological solutions are needed to enhance the preservation capacity of agricultural products for both domestic consumption and export in their fresh form.
In reality, agricultural production remains fragmented and small-scale, lacking stable and sustainable production and consumption chains. Most products are sold directly at the farm or stored using rudimentary methods. While many businesses are starting to focus on preservation and invest in cold storage systems, these solutions only provide short-term preservation. Prolonged cold storage can degrade the quality of agricultural products. Consequently, limitations in technology during and after harvest result in significant losses and reduced value of agricultural products.
One technology that has become quite popular in advanced countries is Controlled Atmosphere (CA) technology. CASS has successfully researched and applied this technology in the Vietnamese market.
This technology does not use chemicals but instead modifies the atmospheric composition to reduce the respiration of agricultural products while maintaining their quality and freshness, thereby extending their shelf life. Additionally, this technology helps eliminate and inhibit pests and prevent their damage.
The CASS storage system combines Controlled Atmosphere (CA) technology with ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System) robotics to provide an intelligent storage solution for agricultural products. Extending the storage time helps prolong the sales period and addresses the issue of “bumper harvests and falling prices” in agricultural business. Maintaining the quality of agricultural products post-storage not only reduces losses but also enhances their value.
