3 Secrets to CASS’s Successful Application of “Controlled Atmosphere (CA) Technology” in Vietnam

Preserving fresh produce after harvest remains a challenging problem in Vietnam. As a tropical country, Vietnam boasts a variety of high-quality, flavorful, and nutritious agricultural products. However, the volume and value of Vietnamese fruits in exports are low and frequently encounter situations where bumper crops lead to falling prices.

Numerous meetings have been held by various sectors to find solutions for the nation’s agricultural products. However, significant limitations persist. The spontaneous, small-scale farming practices, overuse of pesticides and fertilizers, and concentrated harvest periods result in low and inconsistent product quality. Additionally, the supply far exceeds demand, and the existing preservation technology is inadequate, making it increasingly difficult to consume agricultural products.

Striving to address these challenges, CASS sought a sustainable solution to the problem of post-harvest fresh produce preservation in Vietnam. After extensive research and learning, we have successfully established Vietnam’s first fully automated fresh produce preservation warehouse using Controlled Atmosphere (CA) technology.

Here are the three secrets that have enabled CASS to successfully apply “Controlled Atmosphere (CA) Technology” in Vietnam:

  1. Advanced Cooling and CA Technology Integration: CASS features a modern cooling system combined with CA technology, capable of adjusting temperature, humidity, and gas concentrations (N2, O2, CO2, C2H4…) evenly throughout the warehouse. This setup reduces the respiration rate of produce, eliminates harmful microorganisms, and ensures optimal storage conditions while maintaining consistent flavor and quality. Global studies have shown that under CA conditions, many products can be stored 2-4 times longer than under conventional preservation methods. Currently, apples can be stored for up to 12 months.
  2. Integration with Intelligent Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS): By combining CA technology with an intelligent ASRS robotic system, CASS overcomes challenges such as high costs and difficult implementation due to human inability to work in low-oxygen environments. This integration optimizes losses by up to 75% compared to current methods, providing high profits for customers.
  3. Comprehensive Filtration and Sterilization Systems: Equipped with odor and bacteria filtration systems and zinc-coated steel pallets, CASS ensures the most optimal storage environment.
