12 Outstanding Teams Advance to the Finals of Vietnam’s Young Logistics Talent Competition 2020

The Young Logistics Talent Competition Vietnam is an annual event organized by the Vietnam Logistics Training Network in collaboration with the Department of Import and Export – Ministry of Industry and Trade. The competition aims to create a practical platform for young people passionate about logistics while promoting and raising awareness about the importance and benefits of this industry.

This year’s semi-finals featured more than 40 top teams from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, competing in two main rounds: “Ignition” and “Aspiration”. In the Ignition round, teams answered a series of multiple-choice questions in English about logistics and supply chain management. In the Aspiration round, each team had 6 minutes to present and 4 minutes to respond to questions from the judging panel regarding practical solutions for logistics companies in Vietnam.

At the end of the semi-finals, Team V141 from the University of Commerce won the first prize in the northern region, while Team VTLOGS20 from the University of Transport in Ho Chi Minh City led the southern region. The top 12 teams will advance to the finals of the Young Logistics Talent Competition 2020, promising more intense and engaging rounds.

Northern Region Winning Team

At the Hanoi Industrial University venue, Dr. Nguyen Thi Van Ha, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee, stated that with rapid growth, the Vietnam Logistics Business Association predicts that in the coming years, logistics service companies, along with manufacturing, trade, and service companies, will need an additional million logistics professionals. However, recent reports show that the current workforce in logistics meets only 50% of the total recruitment demand.

This discrepancy is concerning given that the logistics sector, valued at USD 40 billion and accounting for 20% of the country’s GDP, faces significant challenges in finding high-quality personnel with both skill sets and English proficiency. “Therefore, organizing competitions and developing high-standard educational programs to train and develop the logistics workforce is crucial,” emphasized Dr. Nguyen Thi Van Ha.

At the Hong Bang International University venue in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. To Diep, Representative of the Vietnam Logistics Training Network, shared that the 2020 Young Logistics Talent Competition, starting from August 1, 2020, attracted significant interest from students, with 495 teams from 48 universities and colleges nationwide. This demonstrates the scale and practical benefits the competition offers to the logistics sector in Vietnam and young people interested in this field.

From a business perspective, Ms. Nguyen Thi Viet Ha, Representative of VietjetAir Cargo in the northern region, noted: “Following and supporting the competition from the beginning, we have seen it successfully fulfill its mission of nurturing logistics talent and spreading the message about the importance of logistics to Vietnam’s economy and national development.”

“In Vietnam, the air transport sector has high potential and rapid growth. Additionally, the aviation industry is highly specialized, requiring skilled and experienced personnel. We are hopeful that the competition will uncover new talents for both the logistics sector in general and the aviation sector in particular,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Viet Ha added.
