Challenges Preventing the Application of Controlled Atmosphere (CA) Methods in Vietnam’s Industrial Preservation of Fruits and Vegetables

Current Challenges:

  1. Complexity of the System: The CA system is highly complex, requiring special attention during both construction and operation of storage facilities.
  2. High Cost of Atmospheric Adjustment: Adjusting the atmospheric environment within the storage facilities incurs significant costs.
  3. Incompatibility with Existing Storage Facilities: Current agricultural storage facilities are outdated, relying heavily on human labor and forklifts for storing and retrieving goods. The low oxygen environment required for CA storage makes it impossible for humans to work inside.

Proposed Solutions:

  1. Invest in Modern Storage Facilities: Construct modern storage facilities that meet the stringent technical requirements of the CA method.
  2. Tight Control of Gas Concentrations: Implement strict control over gas concentrations and minimize gas leakage to reduce the costs associated with atmospheric adjustments.
  3. Utilize Automation Technology: Apply automation technology for storing and retrieving goods to overcome the harsh working conditions created by the low oxygen environment.
